Past simple - Dialogue

Policeman 1: Where were you on Monday, 8th October, at midnight?

Policeman 2: Tell us, please, did you go to Johny’s restaurant?

Suspect: Well...I...I didn’t go there, but I was near the restaurant.

Policeman 1: Why were the tyres of your car so dirty?

Suspect: I went to the forest and the road was wet and muddy.

Policeman 2: Why did you want to visit the forest so late?

Suspect: I like mushrooms. I needed some to prepare a soup.

Policeman 1: A soup?

Policeman 2: What a coincidence! The victim ate precisely a soup the night she died.

Suspect: What? I am not guilty.

Policeman 1: Did you meet Johny, later?

Policeman 2: We know that you were at the restaurant.. There are cameras which recorded everything that happened inside. And you were there.

Suspect: Oh, my God! I’m innocent! The mushrooms that I picked are for my family!

Policeman 1: I’m sorry, but you cannot return home today. You stay here, in prison.

Policeman 2: Tomorrow we will speak with another witness in order to have another testimony.

Suspect: Oh, dear, this is a nightmare!
